KARACHI: – “ Kyun Nikala” is the latest theatre play written by renowned play-writer Anwar Maqsood. It is directed by Dawar Mehmood- KOPYKAT PRODUCTIONS- and it is being performed at the Arts Council of Karachi from the eve of the Independence Day till September 15th, 2018.
Anwar Maqsood said he had written the play, “Kyun Nikala”, a long time before the deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif used it as a political slogan. It is a story of Bengali cook who works in PML-N leader house for the last 30 years.
But, when you watch the play, it seems that it’s not a story of a Bengali cook rather it’s a story of PML-N minister from Punjab named Chaudhry, the leading character of the play featuring famous actor Sajid Hassan, as the entire play revolves around him. With the political development in the country, how Chaudhry gets different offers from different political parties especially from the PPP and the PTI, in the uncertain future of the PML-N and issues and problems he faces during the trial and after the arrest of his party’s chief.
The entire play moves around the recently held elections featuring all leading political parties.
The writer tactfully able to convey his message clearly to the audience how one party is being supported in the current political scenario. In one scene, when the NAB team reaches the house of Chaudhry to interrogate Chaudhry but when he announces to join the PTI, they refuse to arrest him. There are several humorous punch lines in the play which makes you smile and laugh.
Kyun Nikala is a simple play unlike from the past productions of the KOPYKATS having special effects, lighting, fumes, music, and well-designed expensive stage all these things were missing. The only highlight of the play is Anwar Maqsood script which enthrals and entertains the audience.
The lethal combinations of Anwar Maqsood and Dawar Mehmood have produced the six most successful theatre plays under Kopykats Productions in the pasts (Half Plate, Aangan Terrha, Pawnay 14 August, Sawa 14 August, Dharna and Siachen). These plays attracted a large number of audiences to the theatre, even after month-long run performances; it was difficult for the public to find the tickets. They have combined this time after three years long gap.
I am sure that this play will able to attract public attention once again like in the past especially in the current political transition period after general elections.
