KARACHI: An exhibition of Shahid Jalal’s collection of paintings was held from 21 to 23 November, 2014 at the Sadequain Gallery, Frere Hall. The purpose of the event was to collect funds for The Citizens Foundation schools.
“The Citizens Foundation (TCF) cause is very close to my heart and the best way to help was to have a silent auction of the largest collection of my work”, says Shahid Jalal, Pakistan’s celebrated landscape artist. Jalal has stepped forward yet again and in a magnanimous philanthropic gesture, donating sixty-five canvases to raise funds for the TCF schools. Earlier in 2009, his nationwide auction of 22 paintings, “The Pool Garden” also successfully raised funds for TCF schools.
“Seasons of Lahore” is a collection of canvases by Jalal, with avista-like quality that celebrate nature in all its resplendent colour and glory, at varying times and in varying light. The collection is the work of five years and includes paintings from the Series of Nisar Road and Lahore Garden Series (Lawrence Gardens and Jillani Park). The exhibition presented a unique opportunity to visitors, to view a solo show of such grandeur and magnitude, for a worthy cause.
Shahla Shareef, a founding member of the TCF told Live Rostrum that TCF was an NGO running schools in under developed areas all over the country. “We have 1000 schools now with about 150,000 students. The idea of this activity is to sell the paintings of Shahid Jalal, to raise funds for efficiently running the existing TCF schools and also to establish new schools”, she added.
